Peter was the second son of John Charles and Patricia Brown. In November 2005, Peter’s life was tragically foreshortened in a motorcycle accident. Joining the family business in 1963 as Vineyard Manager he spent many years in the role of Viticultural Director before taking over management of the St Leonards Vineyard and All Saints Estate.
Peter revitalised All Saints Estate and St Leonards under the banner of Peter R. Brown Family Vineyards. He also continued his involvement in Brown Brothers Milawa Vineyard through his position as Director on the Brown Brothers Board. Peter is succeeded by his daughters Eliza and Angela and son Nicholas.
Peter joined the family business in 1963 after completing his education at Scotch College in Melbourne. Like John Graham, Peter’s viticultural career commenced well before his official appointment in the company. A role as Vineyard Manager then as Viticultural Director fulfilled his love of the outdoors and his life long fascination with vineyards, different grape varieties and viticultural experimentation.
Peter was responsible for the establishment of Brown Brothers’ Mystic Park Vineyard in the 1960s, next to Kangaroo Lake in the Murray Valley of northern Victoria. Mystic Park is home to the company’s warm climate grape plantings including Crouchen, Tarrango, Orange Muscat and Flora from which Brown Brothers produce unique wines.
